Bath is getting yet another hardware/home improvement option! Valu Home Center is moving into the old Acme/Salvation Army building at Washington & SR 54. It was a serious blow to that plaza when Bath Building Supply (a branch of Corning Building Supply) closed its store on the opposite end of the strip plaza.
This situation was further compounded by the closure of the Salvation Army Thrift Center. The “Sally” decided to close all of the local stores in our area–something that really served the needs of many citizens all across the economic spectrum. Now we have another gap in that dimension. It is somewhat offset by the fact that Pookies opened a new store in the Tops Plaza.
Valu Home Center, with stores throughout NYS and Pennsylvania, had two other stores–one in Hornell and another in Painted Post where Pookies was once located. The latter two were closed and this looks like a fresh regional start.
Slated to open late in March, it is very busy inside with contractors making things ready. Welcome to the community!
