LP Building Solutions Coming to IDA Park

LP Corp., mainly doing business as LP Building Solutions (Louisiana-Pacific) will construct a new $24 million, 74-acre manufacturing plant in Bath.  As planned, it will be located in the old Steuben County Industrial Park on SR54.  The company plans to build its new LP® SmartSide® ExpertFinish® at the Bath pre-finishing facility.  The company will receive its raw exterior home siding stock by railroad from its production mills. The material will then be textured, shaped, painted, packaged, and distributed via LP’s existing network throughout the Northeast and beyond. As a result of the project, LP plans to create approximately 60 new jobs in the Southern Tier region. The company expects to be operational at the site in the third quarter of 2023.

There is some concern as to the increased traffic on SR54 due to the upcoming Amazon distribution facility nearby.  The ongoing negotiations have centered on a traffic light and turn lanes.  In September 2021, the Steuben County Industrial Development Authority (SCIDA) committed $100K to the project.  This funding comes to us locally through the 2021 federal American Rescue Plan Act.  As it stands now, a turn lane will be added to the entrance to Amazon between the Simmons-Rockwell buildings.

Additional funding will come through New York State’s Empire State Development Corporation and will deliver up to $1 million through the Excelsior Jobs Tax Credit Program in exchange for job creation commitments. As noted previously, this will amount to over 60 new job opportunities.  New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG), the Steuben County IDA, and B&H Railroad are also providing assistance for the project.
